Governor Granholm Announces Recent Appointments

LANSING - Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced the following recent appointments and reappointments:

Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs

Samir Singh of East Lansing, senior consultant for New Economy Initiative, is appointed for a term expiring September 1, 2011.  He succeeds Cindy Ornstein who has resigned.

George Bayard, III of Kentwood, owner of Bayard Art Consulting and Frame Shop, is reappointed for a term expiring September 1, 2013.

David Egner of Novi, president and CEO of Hudson-Webber Foundation, is reappointed for a term expiring September 1, 2013.

Nheena Weyer Ittner of Marquette, director of the Upper Peninsula Children's Museum, is reappointed for a term expiring September 1, 2013.

Barbara "Bunny" Kratchman of Bloomfield Hills, arts consultant for Michigan Council for the Arts and former president of ArtServe Michigan, is reappointed for a term expiring September 1, 2013.

Amanda VanDusen of Pleasant Ridge, principal with Miller, Canfield, Paddock and Stone, PLC, is reappointed for a term expiring September 1, 2013.

The Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs serves to encourage, develop and facilitate an enriched environment of artistic, creative and cultural activity in Michigan.

These appointments are not subject to disapproval by the Michigan Senate.

Michigan Finance Authority

JulieAnn Karkosak of East Lansing, vice president and general counsel for Toyota Boshoku America, Inc., is appointed to represent residents of this state for a term expiring September 30, 2014.

The Michigan Finance Authority is a newly created public finance authority established by Governor Granholm by Executive Order 2010-2.  Effective May 30, 2010, functions relating to public financing, including the issuance of bonds and notes, previously performed by governing bodies of the Michigan Forest Finance Authority, the Michigan Higher Education Assistance Authority, the Michigan Higher Education Facilities Authority, the Michigan Higher Education Student Loan Authority, the Michigan Municipal Bond Authority, the Michigan Public Educational Facilities Authority, the Michigan Strategic Fund, the Michigan Tobacco Settlement Finance

Authority, the Michigan Underground Storage Tank Financial Assurance Authority, the State Educational Facilities Commission, the State Hospital Finance Authority, and the State Land Bank Fast Track Authority are consolidated in the new Michigan Finance Authority.

This appointment is subject to Section 6 of Article V of the Michigan Constitution of 1963.  It stands confirmed unless disapproved by the Michigan Senate within 60 days.

Michigan Rehabilitation Council

George Felix Sirls of Detroit, HIV and substance abuse counselor for the Detroit Department of Health and Wellness, is appointed to represent residents of this state for a term expiring December 31, 2012.  He succeeds Cynthia Kidder whose term has expired.

Norma Bauer of Lansing, case manager for Livingston County Michigan Works!, is reappointed to represent the Statewide Independent Living Council for a term expiring December 31, 2012.

Eleanor Chang of Ann Arbor, social work counselor for Dr. Thomas Rosenbaum & Associates, is reappointed to represent disability advocacy groups representing individuals with physical, cognitive, sensory and mental disabilities for a term expiring December 31, 2012.

Jacqueline Day of Lansing, volunteer with Capital Area Center for Independent Living, is reappointed to represent disability advocacy groups and individuals with physical, cognitive, sensory and mental disabilities for a term expiring December 31, 2012.

Joanne Lamar of Plymouth, nurse manager for Henry Ford Health System, is reappointed to represent residents of this state for a term expiring December 31, 2012.

Luke Zelley of Grand Blanc, director of business development for The Disability Network, is reappointed to represent disabilities groups representing representatives of individuals with disabilities who have difficulty in representing themselves or are unable due to their disabilities to represent themselves for a term expiring December 31, 2012.

The Michigan Rehabilitation Council is charged with reviewing, analyzing, and advising Michigan Rehabilitation Services (MRS) regarding all rehabilitation programs and policies administered in Michigan under the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.

These appointments are not subject to disapproval by the Michigan Senate.

State Teacher Tenure Commission

Karen Leslie of Grayling, educator with Crawford AuSable Schools, is reappointed to represent classroom instructors for a term expiring August 31, 2015.

The State Teacher Tenure Commission renders decisions on appeals by teachers who contest decisions made by their local school boards concerning their tenure rights.

This reappointment is not subject to disapproval by the Michigan Senate.
