LANSING - Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced the following recent appointments and reappointments:
Advisory Council on Arab and Chaldean American Affairs
Ahmad Chebbani of Dearborn, chairman of the Arab American Chamber of Commerce, is reappointed for a term expiring September 30, 2014.
Nadia Fadel-Bazzi of Dearborn Heights, local U.S. Census office manager, is reappointed for a term expiring September 30, 2014.
Hesham Gayar of Grand Blanc, medical oncologist with the Radiation Oncology Center, is reappointed for a term expiring September 30, 2014.
Alexander Isaac of Grand Blanc, director of immigration services for the American Arab Heritage Council, is reappointed for a term expiring September 30, 2014.
John Mackay of Detroit, specialist with H&R Block, is reappointed for a term expiring September 30, 2014.
Radwan Mardini of Dearborn Heights, chaplain for the American Muslim Center, is reappointed for a term expiring September 30, 2014.
Fatina Masri of West Bloomfield, physician at the Masri Clinic for Laser and Cosmetic Surgery, is reappointed for a term expiring September 30, 2014.
George Shalhoub of Novi, pastor at the Basilica of St. Mary Orthodox Church, is reappointed for a term expiring September 30, 2014.
The Advisory Council on Arab and Chaldean American Affairs serves in an advisory role to the governor, alerting her to pertinent issues within the largest Arab American and Chaldean American community outside of the Middle East. It also makes recommendations about programs and policies for the betterment of Arab and Chaldean Americans in Michigan and promotes public awareness of Arab and Chaldean culture and accomplishments.
These reappointments are not subject to disapproval by the Michigan Senate.
Governor's Task Force on Children's Justice
Julie McMurtry of Madison Heights, chief of the Juvenile Division of the Oakland County Prosecutor's Office, is appointed to represent judicial and legal officers for a term expiring June 30, 2012.
Hon. John Monaghan of Port Huron, 72nd District Court judge, is appointed to represent judicial and legal officers for a term expiring June 30, 2012.
Hon. Donald Owens of Williamston, Michigan Court of Appeals judge, is appointed to represent judicial and legal officers for a term expiring June 30, 2012.
The Governor's Task Force on Children's Justice is responsible for the review and evaluation of the handling of child abuse cases in Michigan. It makes recommendations to the governor on potential courses of action that, if taken, would improve the efficiency of the current system in order to better protect children, punish abusers, and enhance the laws governing child abuse, while ensuring due process of law to all parties involved.
These appointments are not subject to disapproval by the Michigan Senate.
Michigan Film Office Advisory Council
William Black of Rochester Hills, legislative and community affairs director for the Michigan Teamsters, is reappointed to represent residents of this state for a term expiring September 30, 2014.
Michael Moore of Central Lake, director and owner of Dog Eat Dog Films, is reappointed to represent broad areas of film and motion picture-making, production of television programs and commercials, and related industries in Michigan for a term expiring September 30, 2014.
Marc Prey of Milford, screenwriter, filmmaker, and co-owner of Moving Pictures Entertainment, LLC, is reappointed as a nominee of the Speaker of the House of Representatives for a term expiring September 30, 2014.
The Michigan Film Advisory Commission assists the Michigan Film Office in promoting the state's film, television and video production industries and attracting media business to Michigan. It also has the responsibility of advising the governor and the Legislature on how to promote and market Michigan locations, facilities, crews, talent and related services.
These reappointments are not subject to disapproval by the Michigan Senate.
Joint Task Force for Health Professions in Medicine and Osteopathic Medicine and Surgery
Michael Claussen of Kalamazoo, physician's assistant at Sleep Health, is appointed to represent physician's assistants for a term expiring June 30, 2014.
John McGinnity of Attica, associate professor and physician assistant at Wayne State University, is appointed to represent physician's assistants for a term expiring June 30, 2014.
The Joint Task Force for Health Professions in Medicine and Osteopathic Medicine and Surgery is responsible for the licensure and examination of persons prior to their entry into practice as a physician's assistant.
These appointments are subject to Section 6 of Article V of the Michigan Constitution of 1963. They stand confirmed unless disapproved by the Michigan Senate within 60 days.
Public Safety Communications Interoperability Board
Stacy French of Kalamazoo, training and safety officer with the Portage Fire Department, is appointed to represent local emergency first responders for a term expiring April 30, 2014. He succeeds William Dwyer whose term has expired.
The Public Safety Communications Interoperability Board, Michigan's 800 MHz radio system and telecommunications network, provides statewide interoperability in digital clarity to its members throughout the state and adopts procedures governing the organization and operations of the Michigan Public Safety Communications System.
This appointment is not subject to disapproval by the Michigan Senate.
