May 15, 2013
LANSING, Mich. - Gov. Rick Snyder has appointed 75th District Court Judge Stephen Carras as the new 42nd Circuit Court Judge in Midland County. He fills a vacancy created by the resignation of Judge Jonathan Lauderbach.
"Stephen has dedicated his career to serving the people of Midland County, and he will continue that excellent service as circuit court judge," Snyder said.
Carras, a lifelong resident of Midland, was elected to the district court bench in 2006. He previously was an attorney in private practice at Carras Law Office, PLLC. He is also active in a number of community organizations, including the Midland Center for the Arts and Greater Midland Community Centers.
He received a bachelor's degree from Michigan State University, a degree from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law, and a Master of Laws degree from Wayne State University Law School.
Carras will serve out the remainder of Lauderbach's term through Jan. 1, 2015. He will need to seek election for a full six-year term in November 2014.
