LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointments of Michael Bell, of Beverly Hills, Peter Levine, of Flint, and Dwight McNally, of Saginaw, to the Michigan Board of Veterinary Medicine.
Housed within the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs, the nine-member board evaluates and determines minimal entry level competency of veterinarians, and takes disciplinary action against any misconduct of licensees.
“Veterinary medicine is an important profession and I am confident these appointees will do a great job on the board,” Snyder said.
Bell is a partner at Howard & Howard. He has more than 10 years of experience with nonprofit and corporate clients, working closely with state and federal authorities and regulators. Before joining Howard & Howard, Bell was a partner at Kotz, Sangster, Wysocki PC, as well as at Desenberg, Colip & Bell PC. Bell holds a BA in political science from Adrian College and a JD from Valparaiso University School of Law. He will represent the general public and replaces Kimlee Beattie.
Levine is the executive director of the Genesee County Medical Society, executive director of the Medical Society Foundation, executive director of PPI Communications, and executive director of the Emergency Centre of Flint. He previously served as the program director for the Greater Flint Area Hospital Assembly and at the Highway Safety Research Institute at the University of Michigan. Levine holds a BA in political science from the University of Michigan and a MPH in health behavior and health education from the University of Michigan School of Public Health. He will represent the general public and replaces Carlene Mae Allen.
McNally is the owner/practicing veterinarian of Gratiot Animal Hospital, where he has dedicated over 25 years of service. He serves as a board member of Covenant Medical Center and Covenant HealthCare System, president of the William McNally Family Foundation, and chairperson of the board of finance at Faith Lutheran Church. McNally holds a BS and a DVM, both from Michigan State University. He will represent veterinarians and replaces Lawrence Letsche.
Members serve four-year terms expiring Dec. 31, 2017, and their appointments are subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
