Norlander named to 10th District Court bench in Calhoun County
June 25, 2014
LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointment of James D. Norlander to the 10th District Court in Calhoun County.
“I’m looking forward to James’ work on the bench,” Snyder said. “James is an established legal professional and I am confident he will serve the people of Calhoun County and Michigan well.”
Norlander entered private practice in 1981, most recently working on business, real estate and commercial law trials. He previously spent nearly a decade covering criminal defense trials as well as business and family law with a focus on divorce and custody cases.
In 1974, Norlander was appointed as an assistant prosecuting attorney for Calhoun County. He later was promoted to chief assistant prosecutor and, in 1976, was elected county prosecutor. He was a member of the Calhoun County Indigent Defense Team from 1981-1992 where he represented a number of court-appointed criminal defendants. Norlander earned a bachelor's degree from the University Of Michigan and a law degree from the University of Minnesota.
Norlander fills the vacancy created by the resignation of Judge John R. Holmes. He must seek election in November 2016 to complete the current term.
