Snyder makes appointments, reappointments to Board of Acupuncture

LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced four appointments and three reappointments to the Michigan Board of Acupuncture.
Housed within the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs, the 13-member board oversees the licensure and practice of acupuncture.
“These appointees bring a diverse set of skills to the board and I thank them for their service,” Snyder said.
Appointments:
Renee Hubbs, of Lansing, is the owner of Integrated Health of Mid-Michigan. She also owned a practice in Malibu, California, and was a co-owner of a practice in Battle Creek and Kalamazoo. Hubbs graduated from the California School of Examination in Oriental medicine and Chinese herbs and has passed the Board of Medical Quality Assurance Examination. She will represent acupuncturists and replaces Margaret Batzer.
Julie Silver, of Royal Oak, is the founder and owner of Michigan Associates of Acupuncture and Integrative Medicine Inc. She is a board member of Yoga By Design Foundation and served as vice president on the board of the Michigan Association of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. Silver earned a bachelor’s degree from Western Michigan University, a master’s in social work from Wayne State University and received certification in acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine from the Midwest College of Oriental Medicine. She will represent acupuncturists and replaces Deborah Lincoln.
Jonell Underwood, of Dansville, is a pricing specialist for Sears. She previously worked at Market Street in Texas before moving back to Michigan. Underwood attended Lansing Community College. She will represent the general public and replaces Charles Morris.
Sarah Wernert, of Sterling Heights, is an office manager for Baby Envision LLC and a sales associate for Things Remembered. She earned her bachelor’s degree in general studies from Oakland University. She will represent the general public and replaces Chrystal Roach.
Reappointments:
Annie Haas, of East Lansing, is an acupuncturist at Creative Wellness Center. She served as an assistant at the Pacific Center of Health and as an associate intern at the Community Clinic in San Diego. Haas earned a bachelor’s degree in anthropology from Indiana University and a master’s degree from the Pacific College of Oriental Medicine. She will continue to represent acupuncturists.
Beth Converse, of West Bloomfield, is the owner of B Kohn Converse LLC. She served as an acupuncturist at the Henry Ford Center for Integrative Medicine. Converse earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Maryland and a master’s degree from the Pacific College of Oriental Medicine. She will continue to represent acupuncturists.
Members serve four-year terms expiring June 30, 2018. Their appointments are subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
