Distel named to 61st District Court in Grand Rapids

LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointment of Michael J. Distel to the 61st District Court in Grand Rapids.
“Mike is known in the Grand Rapids community to be a hard-working attorney, respected for both his good character and his deep knowledge of the law. I am confident he will do great work representing the people of Michigan,” Snyder said.
Distel is a senior attorney with Bolhouse, Baar & Lefere PC, in Grand Rapids. He has been with the firm since 2012, focusing on creditors rights and worker’s compensation defense. Distel previously worked with Shareholder, Nantz, Litowich, Smith, Girard & Hamilton PC, and was in private practice with a number of other firms in the Grand Rapids area.
Distel serves on the Military Appeals Tribunal and the State Bar Civil Procedure & Court Committee. He is a member of the Grand Rapids Bar Association, the State Bar Association and the Federal Bar Association for the Western District of Michigan. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University and a law degree from the University of Detroit.
Distel fills the vacancy created by the resignation of Judge Benjamin H. Logan. He must seek election in November 2016 for the balance of the term.
