Gov. Rick Snyder makes reappointments to Certificate of Need Commission

LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the reappointments of Gail Clarkson, of Bloomfield Hills, Marc Keshishian, of Farmington Hills, and Luis Tomatis, of Grand Rapids, to the Certificate of Need Commission.
The 11-member commission is a state program that works to help balance the cost, quality and access to Michigan's health care system.
"These appointees have decades of experience working in the health care industry and have done good work on the Commission. I thank them for their willingness to continue working to connect Michiganders with affordable, quality health care," Snyder said.
Clarkson is CEO of MediLodge Group. She has more than 30 years of experience working with the aging population and helping them connect with their care needs. Clarkson earned a nursing degree from Faulkner Hospital School of Nursing. She continues to represent Democrats and nursing homes.
Keshishian is senior vice president and chief medical officer for the Blue Care Network. He is a member of the American College of Physicians and the American Medical Association. He earned a bachelor's degree in cellular biology from the University of Michigan and a doctorate from Wayne State University. Keshishian continues to represent nonprofit healthcare corporations. He represents Democrats and a nonprofit health care corporation operating pursuant to the nonprofit health care corporation reform act, or a nonprofit mutual disability insurer into which a nonprofit health care corporation has merged.
Tomatis worked as a surgeon for more than 30 years and is the founding president for the Van Andel Institute. Tomatis serves as an honorary member of DeVos Children’s Hospital, a steering committee member of the Vascular Institute at the Detroit Medical Center, and sits on the Michigan State University Ethics Director’s Council. Tomatis earned a bachelor’s degree from Colegio del Sagrado Corazon and a doctorate from Escuela de Medicina del Litoral. He continues to represent Republicans and individuals licensed to engage in the practice of medicine.
Keshishian will serve a three-year term expiring Jan. 1, 2018. Clarkson and Tomatis will serve three-year terms expiring April 9, 2018. Their appointments are subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
