LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointment of Daniel “Dan” Loepp, of Birmingham, to the Mackinac Island State Park Commission.
Formed in 1895, this commission oversees operations and maintenance of Mackinac State Historic Parks, which include Fort Mackinac, historic downtown Mackinac Island, Manoogian Mackinac Art Museum, Mackinac Island State Park, Colonial Michilimackinac, Old Mackinac Point Lighthouse, and the Historic Mill Creek Discovery Park.
"Dan is a great choice for this important commission," said Snyder. "He brings tremendous leadership skills and will help maintain the wonderful Michigan landmarks that bring more than a million residents and visitors to the island each year."
Loepp is president and CEO of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan and serves on the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association Board of Directors. He is a member of the National Institute for Health Care Management Board, is executive committee chairman of the Downtown Detroit Partnership Board, and serves as a director for Business Leaders for Michigan, Detroit Economic Club and The Parade Company. Loepp also sits on the board of Accident Fund Holdings, Inc. He holds a bachelor’s degree in communication and master’s degree in political communication both from Wayne State University. He represents Democrats and replaces Frank Kelley, who resigned.
Loepp will serve a six-year term expiring April 12, 2021. His appointment is subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
