LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointments of Steve Johnson, of West Olive, and Tammy Yeomans, of Grand Rapids, and the reappointments of Kristen Columbus, of Saline, and Heidi DeVries, of Kentwood, to the Developmental Disabilities Council.
Housed within the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, the 21-member council advocates for people with disabilities on a statewide level.
“The varied backgrounds and experiences of these individuals will be a tremendous asset to the council and Michiganders, and I look forward to their contributions moving forward,” Snyder said.
Appointments:
Johnson, now retired, was most recently a financial advisor for Chemical Bank and has experience with New England Financial, MassMutual Insurance, and State Farm. Johnson earned a bachelor’s degree in English and theology from Concordia University (Illinois), and studied financial services at The American College (Pennsylvania). She represents individuals with developmental disabilities and fills a vacancy.
Reappointments:
Columbus is a parent mentor with the Michigan Association for Families, where she has worked since 2011. Previously she was a transition coordinator for the Washtenaw Association for Advocacy. Columbus earned a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Allegheny College and a master’s degree in chemistry from the University of Michigan. She continues to represent parents or guardians of a child with developmental disabilities.
DeVries currently works at Art Van Furniture. She has extensive experience in the home health industry, retail and working with children with disabilities. She served as a personal care attendant for the Family Independence Agency and as a home health aide and companion for the Circle of Care in Grand Rapids. She continues to represent individuals with a developmental disability.
Yeomans serves the remainder of a four-year term expiring Sept. 30, 2018. Other appointees serve four-year terms expiring Sept. 30, 2019. Appointments are not subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
