LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointment of Michael Mittelstaedt, of Traverse City, to the Michigan Film Office Advisory Council.
Housed within the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, the 14-member Council advises the Michigan Film & Digital Media Office, governor, and legislature on how to promote and market aspects of the state's film industry.
"I thank Michael for bringing his professional skills to the council and I am confident he will be an asset to Michigan’s film and creative industry," Snyder said.
Mittelstaedt is the director of the motion picture arts division at Interlochen Center for the Arts, one of the first high school programs for visual storytelling in the country. He has more than 15 years of experience as a working artist and a decade as an arts administrator, educator and mentor to young student filmmakers and artists. He previously oversaw internships for Metcalf Fellows at the University of Chicago and was a producer for HGTV’s New Spaces. Mittelstaedt earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology and Spanish from Michigan State University and a master’s of fine arts in film production, digital editing and screenwriting from Ohio University. He represents broad areas of film and motion picture making, production of television programs and commercials, and related industries in Michigan and replaces Amy Weber.
Mittelstaedt will serve a four-year term expiring Sept. 30, 2019. His appointment is not subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
