LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointment of Elaine Wood, of Traverse City, and the reappointments of Michael Poyma, of Williamston, Ann Riddering, of Novi, and Brian Sabourin, of Midland, to the Michigan Council for Rehabilitation Services.
The council reviews, analyzes and advises Michigan Rehabilitation Services, within the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services.
"These individuals bring many years of experience and insight to the council," Snyder said. “I look forward to their ongoing contributions.”
Appointment:
Wood is chief executive officer of Networks Northwest. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Albion College and a master’s degree in organizational development from Spring Arbor University. She will represent the Governor’s Talent Investment Board and fills a vacancy.
Reappointments:
Poyma is an employment specialist for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and also served in the U.S. Army as a Blackhawk helicopter repairer. Poyma holds a bachelor’s degree from Ohio State University. He will continue to represent disability advocacy groups.
Riddering is a rehabilitation supervisor and staff occupational therapist at the Center for Vision and Neuro Rehabilitation at the Henry Ford Health System. She holds a bachelor’s degree, master’s degree, and is completing her doctorate, all from Western Michigan University. She will continue to represent business, industry, or labor.
Sabourin is the director of employment advocacy for the Michigan Protection and Advocacy Service and has over 20 years of experience working with cognitive and physical disabilities. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Central Michigan University. He will continue to represent the client assistance program described under Section 112 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.
Appointees will three-year terms expiring Dec. 31, 2018. Their appointments are not subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
