Gov. Rick Snyder makes appointment, reappointments to the Michigan Humanities Council

LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointment of Margaret Stephanak, of Portage, and the reappointments of Jody Egen, of Monroe, Miranda Krajniak, of Grand Rapids, and Steven Wilson, of Grand Rapids, to the Michigan Humanities Council.

The council fosters quality cultural programs that unite humanities scholars and the public for fundraising and community engagement.

“I thank these appointees for their dedication to this council and look forward to all of their future contributions,” Snyder said.

Appointment:
Stephanak is vice president of Southwest Michigan First. She serves on the Board of Governors for the Kalamazoo Country Club and on the Executive Leadership Team for the American Heart Association's Go Red for Women event. Stephanak holds a bachelor’s degree from Purdue University. She replaces Dean Bach.

Reappointments:
Egen is the city of Wyandotte's director of museums and cultural affairs. She previously served as a supervisor and presentation specialist at The Henry Ford's Greenfield Village. Egen earned a bachelor's degree in secondary education from Wayne State University and a master's degree in historic preservation from Eastern Michigan University.

Krajniak is executive director of the Urban Institute for Contemporary Arts. She served as manager of education and exhibits for Saugatuck Center for the Arts and in numerous roles at the Grand Rapids Art Museum. Krajniak earned a bachelor’s degree from Kendall College of Art and Design.

Wilson is president of the Frey Foundation, one of the state's largest family foundations. He previously served as executive director of the Ruth Mott Foundation, president of the Grand Rapids/Kent County Convention and Visitors Bureau and president of the Flint Convention and Visitors Bureau. Wilson received a bachelor's degree from Michigan State University and a master’s in business administration from the University of Michigan - Flint.

Members will serve three-year terms to expiring Dec. 31, 2018. Their appointments are not subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
