Gov. Rick Snyder makes reappointments to the Michigan Women's Commission

LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointments of Darlene Lee, of Grand Rapids, Sara Schroeder, of Saginaw, and Beverly Wall, of Grand Rapids, to the Michigan Women’s Commission.
The 15-member commission improves the quality of life for Michigan women, including providing support for veterans, fighting human trafficking and assisting business owners.
“I appreciate the commission’s commitment to enhancing the lives of Michigan women and look forward to the future contributions of these appointees,” Snyder said.
Lee is the CEO of Darling Communications. She is a current board member of the Literacy Center of West Michigan and is an active member of West Michigan’s Leadership Collaborative for Civil and Human Rights. Lee earned both a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in communications from Grand Valley State University and a doctorate of philosophy from Wayne State University. She fills the vacancy created by the resignation of Jayashree Kommareddi.
Schroeder is the Women Veterans Program Manager at Aleda E. Lutz VAMC, is a registered nurse and a real estate broker. She is a veteran of the U. S. Army and a combat veteran of Desert Storm. Schroeder earned a bachelor’s degree from Spring Arbor University and is pursuing her master’s degree. She fills the vacancy created by the resignation of Brook Thompson.
Wall is CEO and owner of Languages International, Inc., serves as a woman business owner resource with Wall2Wall Marketing, and serves as Planning Commissioner for Grand Rapids Township. She earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Aquinas College and a master’s in business administration from Grand Valley State University. She replaces Carol Zimmer.
Christine Etienne will serve as chair for a term expiring at the pleasure of the governor.
Kathleen Vogelsang will serve as vice chair for a term expiring at the pleasure of the governor.
Lee will serve the remainder of a three-year term expiring July 15, 2016, Schroeder will serve the remainder of a three-year term expiring July 15, 2017, and Wall will serve a three-year term expiring July 15, 2018. Their appointments are subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
