Gov. Rick Snyder makes appointments and reappointment to the Advisory Council on Deaf, DeafBlind, and Hard of Hearing

LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointments of Karen Bailey, of Ann Arbor, Todd Morrison, of Fowlerville, and Christopher Hunter, of Holt and the reappointment of Sarah Liming, of Lansing, to the Advisory Council on Deaf, DeafBlind and Hard of Hearing.
The 13-member council, housed within the Michigan Department of Civil Rights, advises the department on matters pertaining to deaf, deafblind, and hard of hearing persons.
"These individuals bring years of valuable experience to this council," Snyder said. "I am confident their work will support Michigan's deaf, deafblind, and hard of hearing residents."
Appointments:
Bailey is an intern at the VA Ann Arbor Healthcare System on the Visually Impaired Services Team as she completes her master’s degree in social work from Eastern Michigan University. She has worked in mental health, social services, and education for almost 30 years. Bailey earned a bachelor’s degree in humanities with emphasis in parent education from the New College of California and a bachelor’s degree in general studies from Evergreen State College. She will represent individuals knowledgeable in the field of deafness and replaces Helen Boucher.
Hunter retired as director of the Division on Deaf and Hard of Hearing within the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Growth after 27 years of service. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Gallaudet University and a master’s degree in education, administration, and supervision from California State University. He will represent deaf or hard of hearing persons and replaces Patrick Baker.
Morrison is the chief marketing officer and co-founder of Deaf Employment and Business Solutions, LLC. He has served as the outreach coordinator for Community Inclusive Resources in Battle Creek and as general manager for the Communication Access Center in Flint. He will represent individuals knowledgeable in the field of deafness and replaces Renea Forrest.
Reappointments:
Liming, now retired, most recently worked as a hard of hearing specialist for the Michigan Division on Deaf and Hard of Hearing. She has served on several boards, including the Michigan Rehabilitation Council and the Mental Health Advisory Council for Deaf and Hard of Hearing People. She will continue to represent deaf or hard of hearing persons.
Appointees will serve three-year terms expiring Jan. 18, 2019. Their appointments are not subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
