Gov. Rick Snyder makes appointments to the State of Michigan Retirement Board

LANSING, Mich. — Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointment of David Sawyer of Grand Rapids, to the State of Michigan Retirement Board.
The board is under the supervision of the Department of Technology, Management and Budget (DTMB), through its Office of Retirement Services. The board provides oversight of the three systems that service nearly 88,000 active and retired employees.
“I thank David for his willingness to serve on this important board and look forward to his contributions on behalf of retired state employees,” Snyder said.
Sawyer is a judge for the Michigan Court of Appeals (3rd District). Previously he served as a prosecuting attorney and an assistant prosecuting attorney for Kent County. Sawyer earned his bachelor’s degree in public administration from the University of Arizona and his law degree from Valparaiso School of Law. He will represent one member or retiree of the Judges' Retirement System and fills the vacancy created by the resignation of Diane D’Agostini.
Sawyer will serve the remainder of the term expiring Dec. 31, 2017. His appointment is not subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
