Gov. Rick Snyder makes reappointments to the Certificate of Need Commission

LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the reappointments of James (Chip) Falahee of Portage and Denise Brooks-Williams of Detroit to the Certificate of Need Commission.
The 11-member commission regulates and balances cost, quality and access to Michigan's health care system by developing and updating the Certificate of Need standards. No more than six members can be from the same political party.
"I am confident that Chip and Denise will continue to effectively serve in these roles and advance the important work of ensuring all Michiganders have access to and receive quality, affordable health care," Snyder said.
Falahee is senior vice president, legal and legislative affairs and corporate compliance officer for Bronson Healthcare Group in Kalamazoo. He has more than 30 years of experience in health care law and legislation. Prior to joining Bronson in 1987, he was in private practice with the law firm of Dykema Gossett. Falahee earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan and his law degree from Wayne State University. He will continue to represent Republicans and hospitals.
Brooks-Williams is president and CEO of Henry Ford Wyandotte Hospital. Prior to joining Henry Ford Wyandotte, she was president and CEO of Bronson Battle Creek Hospital. She joined Battle Creek Health System in April 2009 as its president and CEO and has served as president of the National Association of Health Services Executives. She earned both her bachelor’s degree and master’s degree from the University of Michigan. She will continue to represent Democrats and hospitals.
Both will serve three-year terms expiring April 9, 2019. Their appointments are subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
