Gov. Rick Snyder makes appointments, reappointment to the Barrier Free Design Board

LANSING, Mich. - Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointments of Ronald Campbell of Flint, Jason Turkish of Southfield, Greg Pollock of Midland, Chris MacKay of Petoskey, and the reappointment of Aaron Besmer of Caledonia, to the Michigan Barrier Free Design Board.
The nine-member board assists the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs with reviewing and processing requests for exceptions to the barrier-free design specifications. It also makes recommendations for barrier-free design rules.
"I appreciate these members’ willingness to serve and I am confident they will represent Michiganders well in this role," Snyder said.
Appointments:
Campbell is a principal planner preservation architect for Oakland County. He has over 40 years of experience working with older buildings and is a federally certified historical architect. Campbell holds a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in architecture from the University of Michigan. He will represent architects and replaces Roger Donaldson.
Turkish is a managing partner at Nyman Turkish PC and oversees one of the nation’s largest Social Security Disability practices. He holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Michigan and a law degree from Northwestern University. He will represent the visually impaired and replaces Karla Hudson.
Pollock is the North America Diversity and Inclusion Leader for the Dow Chemical Company, and has served multiples roles within the company. He also serves as a board member of the Disability Network Mid-Michigan. Pollock holds a bachelor’s degree from the Rochester Institute of Technology. He will represent the hearing impaired and replaces Brett Holt.
MacKay is a senior manager of the Advanced Technology Development Center at American Axle & Manufacturing, Inc. He holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Michigan. MacKay will represent those who are physically limited and may be a wheelchair user and replaces Aaron Andres.
Reappointment:
Besmer is director of operations for the Granger Group and previously served as a site development specialist for Meijer. He served as the former Allendale Charter Township Construction Code of Appeals board chair and as a former Allendale Charter Township planning commissioner. Besmer holds both an associate’s degree and bachelor’s in civil engineering from Michigan Technological University. He will continue to represent engineers.
Campbell, Turkish, and Pollock will serve the remainder of three-year terms expiring Oct. 31, 2017. MacKay and Besmer will serve three-year terms expiring Oct. 31, 2018. Member appointments are subject to the advice and consent of the state Senate.
