Gov. Rick Snyder makes reappointments to the Ski Area Safety Board

LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the reappointments of Charles Gano of Petoskey and Nicholas Sirdenis of Houghton to the Ski Area Safety Board.
Housed within the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs, the seven-member board works to oversee the operation of ski areas, surface and chair lifts, and tow ropes.
"I thank Charles and Nicholas for their willingness to continue to serve on this board and am confident they will continue to help contribute to the safety of residents and visitors who take advantage of Michigan’s numerous ski areas," Snyder said.
Gano serves as general counsel to Boyne Resorts. He was a previous shareholder with Plunkett Cooney LLC, where he served the resort/golf/ski industry and summer resort associations. He is a member of the Association of Ski Defense Attorneys and has been involved in ski industry-related activities for more than 30 years. He previously served as a legal advisor to the National Ski Patrol, the Midwest Ski Area Association and the National Ski Areas Association. Gano holds a bachelor's degree from Miami University and a law degree from Case Western Reserve University. He will continue to represent the Central US Ski Association.
Sirdenis is general manager of Michigan Technological University's Mont Ripley Ski Area. Previously, he served as mountain manager and assistant general manager at Blackjack Ski Corp. Sirdenis is a member of Gogebic Community College's Ski Area Management advisory board and is a former board member of the Western Upper Peninsula Convention and Visitor Bureau. He holds an associate’s degree in ski area management from Gogebic Community College. He will continue to represent the Upper Peninsula ski area managers.
Members will serve four-year terms expiring June 8, 2020. Appointments are subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
