Gov. Rick Snyder makes reappointments to the Michigan Travel Commission

LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the reappointments of Lawrence Schuler of St. Joseph, Julie Sprenger of Laurium and Jerome Toney of Howell to the Michigan Travel Commission.
The Commission collaborates with destination marketing associations, nonprofit corporations and organizations to develop, promote and enhance Michigan’s travel and tourism industry. It also provides the Michigan Economic Development Corporation with input and advice regarding activities related to tourism in the state.
“I thank these individuals for their commitment to this commission and their work to enhance Michigan’s travel industry," Snyder said.
Schuler is president of Schu’s Hospitality Group, a hospitality management and consulting company. Previously, he owned Schu’s Grill and Bar in St. Joseph, Michigan. He is the former chairman of the Michigan Restaurant Association and founder of the Shu’s International Triathlon in St. Joseph, Michigan. Schuler holds a bachelor’s degree in economics and history from Albion College.
Sprenger is the owner and president of the Laurium Manor Inn, Inc., Sprenger Enterprises, and the co-owner and vice president of Sister Sister Foods. She is treasurer of her local tourism board and a 19-year board member of the Upper Peninsula Travel and Recreation Association board. Sprenger holds an associate’s degree in mechanical design engineering from Michigan Technological University.
Toney is the vice president of accommodations at the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island. He serves as treasurer of the Michigan Tourism Plan Fund and Co-Chair of the Funding Committee for the Michigan Tourism Strategic Plan. Toney holds a bachelor’s degree in hotel/motel and restaurant management from Shepherd University.
Members serve four-year terms expiring Aug. 20, 2020. Their appointments are subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
