Gov. Rick Snyder makes reappointments to the State Fire Safety Board

LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the reappointments of Donald Hicks of Freeland, Marcus Jensen of Millington and Ron Sabin of Byron Center to the State Fire Safety Board.
In cooperation with the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs Bureau of Fire Services and fire organizations throughout the state, the 17-member board assists with the development of fire safety rules for the construction, operation and maintenance of various public facilities.
"Fire safety is critically important in ensuring the wellbeing of all Michiganders,” Snyder said. “These individuals bring extensive training and years of valuable experience to the board."
Hicks is the senior loss prevention engineer for the Dow Corning Corporation in Midland. He previously worked for Industrial Risk Insurers and Belk Store Services in North Carolina. Hicks holds a bachelor's degree in engineering from the University of North Carolina. He will continue to represent the chemical manufacturing industry.
Jensen is the owner of Jenco, an internet sales company in Millington. He previously worked for NRG Distributors in Flint as a Product and General Manager. He is a member of the Michigan Propane Gas Association, the Propane Emergencies Response Network (PERN) Committee, and is vice chair of the Propane Emergencies Committee. Jensen holds an associate’s degree in Management from Great Lakes College. He also graduated from the Michigan State Police Arson Investigation School and the United States Coast Guard Port Security School. He will continue to represent the liquefied petroleum or flammable compressed gas industry.
Sabin is a lieutenant with the Grand Rapids Fire Department, where he has worked for 31 years. He is also a building inspector for Cascade Inspection Services. He previously served ten-years as a fire fighter in the Michigan Air National Guard. He holds an associate’s degree in Fire Science from Lansing Community College. He will continue to represent fire departments in the Lower Peninsula
Appointees will serve four-year terms expiring July 15, 2020. The appointments are subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
