LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointment of Mary Templeton of Plymouth as well as the reappointments of Joanne Dawley of Northville, Darlene Lee of Grand Rapids, Jan Peabody of Lapeer, and Kathleen Vogelsang of Ada to the Michigan Women’s Commission.
Housed within the Michigan Department of Civil Rights, the 15-member commission improves the quality of life for Michigan women by providing support for female veterans, fighting human trafficking and assisting female entrepreneurs.
“This group has years of valuable experience to bring to this board and I thank them for their commitment to serve,” Snyder said.
Appointment:
Templeton is a program director with Public Sector Consultants (PSC) and the executive director of Michigan Saves, a nonprofit organization managed by PSC. Prior to joining PSC she held the role of executive vice president of sales and marketing for Wind Energy Consulting and Contracting, Inc. Templeton holds a bachelor’s degree in business from Wayne State University and a master’s in business administration from Eastern Michigan University. She will replace Alyssa Martina.
Reappointments:
Dawley is the owner/dentist of Joanne Dawley, PC. She is a member of the American Dental Association and the Michigan Dental Association. Dawley holds a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Michigan and a DDS from the University Of Michigan School Of Dentistry.
Lee is the CEO of Darling Communications, a leadership strategist and coach working to bridge gender diversity and equity gaps in the workplace. She is a current board member of the Literacy Center of West Michigan and is an active member of the West Michigan Leadership Collaborative for Civil and Human Rights. Lee holds both a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in communications from Grand Valley State University, as well as a doctorate of philosophy from Wayne State University.
Peabody is a supervisor of medical management for McLaren Health Plan in Flint, and previously served as a field nurse case manager for GENEX Services, LLC. She is a fellow of the 2010 Michigan Political Leadership Program and serves as a board member on the Greater Lapeer Transportation Authority. She holds a bachelor’s degree in health studies from Western Michigan University.
Vogelsang is the director/chief investment officer of the Van Andel Institute in Grand Rapids. Previously, she served as the vice president/senior portfolio manager of the Fifth Third Bank Wealth Management Group, investment manager for JVA Enterprises/Amway and financial analyst for Stokes & Company. Vogelsang holds both a bachelor’s in business administration in finance and a master’s in business administration in business management from Grand Valley State University.
Members will serve three-year terms expiring July 15, 2019. Their appointments are subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
