Gov. Rick Snyder makes appointment to the Natural Resources Trust Fund Board of Trustees

Friday, September 9, 2016

LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointment of William (Bill) Rustem of Mason to the Natural Resources Trust Fund Board of Trustees.

The board oversees the Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund, which provides financial assistance to local governments and the Department of Natural Resources to purchase land for public recreation and resource protection. The program also provides funding for outdoor development projects such as trail and park development.

“Bill has spent his career working to improve and preserve Michigan’s natural resources,” Snyder said. “I know he will do great work on this board and I thank him for his willingness to serve.”

Rustem previously served as the director of strategy for Gov. Rick Snyder and as chief staff advisor on environmental matters for Gov. William Milliken. He was owner, president and chief executive officer of Public Sector Consultants (PSC) where he directed studies on the status of Michigan cities, wastewater treatment needs, recycling, and land use. Following his service with the State of Michigan, Rustem became the first executive director of the Center for the Great Lakes in Chicago, where he helped coordinate the 1984 statewide campaign for the creation of the Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund. He will replace Brad Canale.

Rustem will serve a four-year term expiring Oct. 1, 2020. His appointment is subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
