LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointments of Greg Janik of Saugatuck, Ken Morris of Lowell, Curtis Parsons of Tecumseh, and Troy Stern of Tecumseh, to the Public Safety Communications Interoperability Board.
The board oversees Michigan's 800 MHz radio system and telecommunications network, which provides statewide interoperability in digital clarity to its members. It also adopts procedures governing the organization and operations of the Michigan Public Safety Communications System. The Board is also responsible for advising the Governor on all interoperability aspects of current and future technology in the state to ensure the public safety community is well prepared today and in the future with the emergency communications ecosystem.
“These first responders will do great work on this board and I thank them for their service to their community and state,” Snyder said.
Janik is the fire chief and fire marshal for the Saugatuck Township Fire District. He previously served as a state fire marshal inspector for the State of Michigan. He holds an associate’s degree from the College of DuPage, and is a Firefighter I & II Academy graduate. He will represent local emergency first responders and fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Julie Secontine.
Morris is the executive vice president and vice president of operations of Life EMS Ambulance. He is a licensed paramedic and holds a bachelor’s degree from Aquinas College. He will represent local emergency first responders and replace Mark Meijer.
Parsons is the homeland security and emergency management coordinator for Lenawee County. He holds a bachelor’s degree in public safety studies and a master’s degree in emergency management and homeland security, both from Sienna Heights University. He will represent local emergency first responders and replace Jeffrey Friedland.
Stern is the chief of police for the City of Tecumseh. He attended the police academy at Lansing Community College and holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Michigan State University. He will represent local emergency first responders and replace Robert Marchand.
Janik will serve the remainder of a four-year term expiring April 30, 2019. Morris, Parsons, and Stern with serve four-year terms expiring April 30, 2020.
