Gov. Rick Snyder makes appointments, reappointments to the Governor's Council on Physical Fitness, Health and Sports

LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointments of Lindsey DesArmo of Grand Rapids, Andy Younger of Fenton and Justin Zatkoff of West Bloomfield as well as the reappointments of Paul Barbeau of Midland, Thomas Goodwin of Kalamazoo, Jim Pivarnik of East Lansing, Scott Przystas of Grand Haven and Anuja Rajendra of Ann Arbor to the Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness, Health and Sports.
The 15-member council works to improve lives and strengthen communities by supporting healthy eating and physical activity. In an effort to further promote healthy lifestyles, the council hosts the Governor’s Annual Fitness Awards which recognize Michiganders who have overcome obstacles along their health and fitness journeys.
“I thank this group of individuals for their commitment to supporting and encouraging Michiganders to live healthier lives,” Snyder said.
Appointments:
DesArmo is a health and wellness specialist at Grand Valley State University as well as a health and fitness consultant for other businesses and organizations. She holds both a bachelor’s and master’s degree of public administration from Grand Valley State University. She will replace Lila Lazarus.
Younger is the race director for the Crim Fitness Foundation where he works with staff to direct the organization’s efforts to create healthy communities through physical activity, nutrition, and mindfulness. Younger holds a bachelor’s degree in environmental policy from the University of Michigan and a master’s degree in business administration from Loyola University. He will replace Ronald Winter.
Zatkoff is an associate attorney at Dickinson Wright PLLC. He is an avid marathon runner, Ironman triathlon competitor and is a member of the Detroit Economic Club. Zatkoff holds a bachelor’s degree in political science and a law degree from the University Of Detroit Mercy School Of Law. He will replace Tom Minter.
Reappointments:
Barbeau is the president and general manager of the Great Lakes Loons baseball club and ESPN 100.9 FM. He also serves on the board of directors for Chemical Bank, the Midland Community Center, and the Midland Area Chamber of Commerce, as well as on an advisory board for the Saginaw Valley State University Athletic Department. Barbeau holds a bachelor's degree in history and government from Georgetown University.
Goodwin is a physician partner with Portage Physicians, PC, a physician with Borgess Orthopedics, a resident preceptor with Western School of Medicine, and a clinical associate professor with the MSU College of Osteopathic Medicine. He is the medical director for the Kalamazoo Marathon. Goodwin holds a bachelor’s degree in biomedical sciences from Western Michigan University and a doctor of osteopathic medicine from Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine.
Pivarnik is a professor of kinesiology and epidemiology at Michigan State University. He has served on the science advisory panel to the President's Council on Physical Fitness, Sports and Nutrition. He holds a bachelor's degree in recreation and park administration from Indiana University, a master's degree in physical and health education and epidemiology from James Madison University and Michigan State University respectively, as well as a doctorate in human performance from Indiana University.
Przystas is a teacher and coach with Grand Haven Area Public Schools. He serves as the head coach for middle school track and girls cross country. He earned a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology with specializations in health promotion as well as a coaching and a master’s degree in education with a concentration in sports leadership and coaching from Michigan State University.
Rajendra is the founder and CEO of BollyFit, a global wellness movement that draws together a diverse and inclusive community. Rajendra holds a bachelor’s degree in industrial and operations engineering and an MBA in entrepreneurship and international relations, both from the University of Michigan.
Members will serve two-year terms expiring April 30, 2018.
