London, United Kingdom – As Lt. Gov. Brian Calley met with executives from London-based Prudential PLC, parent company of Jackson National Life Insurance Company, Jackson was approved by the Michigan Strategic Fund to continue moving forward and creating jobs in the city of Lansing.
“Jackson National Life is a key employer in Michigan, and we are committed to supporting the company’s growth,” Calley said. “Jackson’s investment and the jobs it has generated demonstrate that Michigan’s business climate and world-class talent are putting our state at the top of the nation’s best places to locate, expand and grow new jobs.”
Jackson National Life, a leading provider of retirement solutions and educational resources for industry professionals and consumers, in 2013 announced plans to invest $114 million to expand its corporate headquarters in Lansing. The investment was expected to create 447 jobs over the next five years and up to 1,019 jobs over the next 10 years, bringing the overall number of employees at the Lansing location to more than 3,000. As a result, the company was awarded a $3 million Michigan Business Development Program performance-based grant.
While the company has completed the expansion, is meeting its hiring milestones, and has invested well over $100 million in the Lansing region, an amendment was necessary to ensure the project was supported as originally intended. Today’s MBDP amendment will support the creation of 304 additional jobs toward the overall goal of 1,000 jobs, as the company continues to expand and invest in Michigan.
Calley is leading a trade mission to the United Kingdom and Ireland this week, focusing on strengthening trade relationships and attracting job creating investments.
Following his meeting with Prudential, Calley met with the London Chamber of Commerce, where he made the case on the advantages of doing business with Michigan. He also toured the Houses of Parliament and met with executives of the Chelsea Football Club, who played in 2014 at The Big House in Ann Arbor in front of more than 100,000 fans, highlighting the U.S. and Michigan as locations for future major soccer events.
