LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointment of Elizabeth Horton of Fenton to the Board of Nursing.
Housed within the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs, the 23-member board establishes qualifications for nurse licensure, approves standards for nurse education programs and takes disciplinary action against licensees when the health, safety, and welfare of the public has been adversely affected.
“I am confident Elizabeth will effectively assist this board in overseeing Michigan’s registered and practical nurses," Snyder said.
Horton is the director of business development for Select Specialty Hospital in Flint, where she previously worked as a clinical liaison and a staff registered nurse. She holds an associate’s degree in nursing from Mott Community College, a bachelor’s degree in psychology from St. Mary’s College, and a masters of business administration in healthcare administration from Spring Arbor University. She will represent registered professional nurses without a baccalaureate engaged in professional nursing practice or nursing administration. She will fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Mary Brown.
Horton will serve the remainder of a four-year term expiring June 30, 2019. Her appointment is subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
