LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointments of Judy Freeman of East Grand Rapids and Carol Paine-McGovern of Grand Rapids to the Early Childhood Investment Corporation board of directors.
Created in 2005, the Early Childhood Investment Corporation collaborates with state and local, public and private partners to promote early childhood policy and program innovations and provide technical assistance and evidence-based information about community strategies that help children and families thrive.
"I thank Judy and Carol for their commitment to serve on this board. I am confident their contributions will positively affect early childhood programs across the state," Snyder said.
Freeman is a principal consultant at Education Consulting Practice where she assists local early childhood capacity building by writing grant proposals, conducting training for parents and professionals, and advocating for support in the community and across the state. Freeman holds a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Michigan State University, a master’s degree in Elementary Administration and a certification in learning disabilities from Grand Valley State University. She will replace Melissa Cragg.
Paine-McGovern is the executive director of the Kent School Services Network, an organization that works to connect much-needed services and supports from early childhood through high school graduation. Paine-McGovern holds a bachelor’s degree in food and nutrition from Michigan State University and a master’s degree in public health nutrition from the University of Minnesota. She will replace Lew Chamberlin.
Members will serve four-year terms expiring July 22, 2020.
