LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointment of Mark Jernigan to the Roscommon County Probate Court.
“Mark Jernigan is a lifelong resident of Roscommon County who has served the county well as prosecuting attorney,” Snyder said. “I am confident he will continue to provide excellent public service in his new position.”
Jernigan, of Saint Helen, has served as the elected prosecuting attorney in Roscommon County since 2004. From 2001 to 2004, he served as an assistant county prosecutor in Roscommon. He began his career in 1991 as an associate at Swanson Law offices in Houghton Lake and was in private practice in Roscommon County until joining the prosecutor’s office. As a private attorney, he handled many types of matters that come before the probate court. As a prosecutor, Jernigan has represented the state in both juvenile delinquency and child abuse and neglect matters before the probate court.
Jernigan is a volunteer coach for three sports at Roscommon High School, is a member of the State Bar of Michigan, the Roscommon County Bar Association, Prosecuting Attorneys Association of Michigan, the Saint Helen Chamber of Commerce, and is a founding member of the Saint Helen Veterans’ Memorial Park.
After graduating as the 1984 valedictorian of Roscommon High School, Jernigan earned a bachelor’s degree from Alma College in 1988 and his law degree from the University of Detroit School of Law in 1991. He will be filling a vacancy created by the resignation of Judge Douglas Dosson.
Jernigan must seek election in November 2018 for a full six-year term.
