Gov. Rick Snyder makes appointment and reappointment to Grand Valley State University Board of Trustees

LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointment of Randall (Randy) Damstra of Ada as well as the reappointment of Kate Pew Wolters of Grand Rapids to the Grand Valley State University Board of Trustees.
The eight-member board is the governing body of the university.
“These individuals bring a variety of experience to this board and I am confident they will do great work to ensure the success of the university,” Snyder said.
Appointment:
Damstra is the senior managing director and head of global private equity for Ottawa Avenue Private Capital, a division of RDV Corporation. He previously served as the managing director for McDonald Investments and a commercial lender for Comerica Bank. Damstra serves on numerous community boards including Ada Township, Goodwill Industries of Grand Rapids, Hope College Endowment Board, the Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Foundation Investment Committee, and is a trustee of the Grand Valley State University Foundation. Damstra holds a bachelor’s degree in finance and economics from Grand Valley State University and a master of business administration from the University of Iowa. He will replace David Way.
Reappointment:
Wolters is the president of the Kate and Richard Wolters Foundation, making grants to non-profit organizations with special emphasis on human service, the arts, education, and people with disabilities. She is co-chair of First Steps Early Childhood Commission, and chair of Grand Rapids Symphony Board of Directors and the Steelcase Foundation, and serves on the board of directors for Michigan Protection and Advocacy Service, DisArt, Mary and Robert Pew Public Education Fund, and the Grand Valley State University Foundation. Wolters holds a bachelor’s degree in sociology from Aquinas College and a master of social work from Michigan State University.
Members serve eight-year terms expiring Dec. 31, 2024. Their appointments are subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
