LANSING, Mich. -- Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointment of William (Bill) Martin of Ann Arbor to the Detroit Financial Review Commission.
The nine-member commission was created by the “Grand Bargain” legislative package to ensure the city of Detroit is meeting statutory requirements, reviewing and approving the city's four-year financial plan, and establishing programs and requirements for prudent fiscal management, among other roles and responsibilities.
“Bill has an extensive background in business and will serve the financial interests of Detroiters well. I thank him for serving on this commission and have confidence in his ability to assist the city in keeping its finances on the right track,” Snyder said.
Martin was the athletic director for the University of Michigan. He has served as president of the Washtenaw Land Conservancy, been a member of the Ann Arbor Public Schools Foundation and served on the board of directors of the U.S Olympic Committee. He received a bachelor’s degree from Wittenberg University, a graduate degree from the University of Stockholm and an MBA from the University of Michigan.
He will represent individuals who have the knowledge, skill, or experience in business, budgeting, revenue forecasting, debt management or borrowing, actuarial science, law, or business. He will replace Lorron James.
Martin previously served on the commission as the nominee of the Speaker of the House. He will serve a four-year term expiring Nov. 9, 2020.
