Gov. Rick Snyder makes appointments to the Barrier Free Design Board

LANSING, Mich. - Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointments of Jamie Spore of Ludington and Michael Winkler of Hamilton to the Michigan Barrier Free Design Board.
The nine-member board assists the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs with reviewing and processing requests for exceptions to the barrier-free design specifications. It also makes recommendations for barrier-free design rules.
"I thank Jamie and Michael for serving on this important board. I am confident they will do substantial work to help make Michigan more accessible for those with disabilities," Snyder said.
Spore is the Ms. Wheelchair Michigan of 2016. She volunteers with the Lakeshore Parrothead Club, the Mason County Relay for Life Planning Committee, and the Walk to End Alzheimer’s Disease Planning Committee. Spore holds an associate’s degree in medical office information systems from West Shore Community College. She will represent wheelchair users and replace Emily Blauw.
Winkler serves as a building official for Holland Charter Township. He previously served on the Bureau of Construction Codes Commercial Energy Code Committee and served on a committee that re-wrote the residential builders exam. He will represent building inspectors and replace Jeffrey Spencer.
Spore will serve the remainder of a three-year term expiring Oct. 31, 2018. Winkler will serve a three-year term expiring Oct. 31, 2019. Member appointments are subject to the advice and consent of the state Senate.
