Gov. Rick Snyder makes appointments to the Michigan Board of Medicine

LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointments of Michael Chafty of Kalamazoo and Domenic Policicchio III of Westland to the Michigan Board of Medicine.
Housed within the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs, the board oversees the practice of medicine and serves as the state's licensing board. It includes 10 doctors, one physician's assistant and eight public members.
"These individuals have years of experience that will serve this board well and I thank them for their commitment to serve," Snyder said.
Chafty is the director of Kalamazoo Anesthesiology Pain Management and the Western Michigan University School of Medicine Pain Department. He also serves as a clinical professor and chair of WMU’s Pain Curriculum Committee. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Albion College, a law degree from Wayne State University and a medical degree from Michigan State University’s College of Human Medicine. He will represent physicians and fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Sandra Lee Howell.
Policicchio is the executive director of global operations for Systems USA, LLC. He also serves as a commissioner of the Zoning Board of Appeals in Westland. Policicchio holds an associate’s degree in business administration from Schoolcraft College, and is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in business administration at Walsh College. He will represent the general public and replace Gail Torreano.
Chafty will serve the remainder of a four-year term expiring Dec. 31, 2017. Policicchio will serve the remainder of a four-year term expiring Dec. 31, 2019. Their appointments are subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
