LANSING, Mich. – First Lady Sue Snyder announced that the Governor’s Lansing Residence will be lit with blue lights this evening to help raise awareness for and promote Down syndrome research.
“It’s an honor to join First Lady Mary Pat Christie’s efforts to help raise awareness for this important cause,” Sue Snyder said. “As one of the most common genetic conditions, it’s important that we enhance research efforts to help Americans and Michiganders living with Down syndrome have the highest quality of life possible.”
First Lady Christie of New Jersey invited governors and first spouses from around the country to join her efforts to raise awareness for Down syndrome by participating in the 2017 “Light the Way” campaign. More than 30 First Spouses are expected to participate in the campaign this year.
More than 400,000 Americans are affected by Down syndrome, with approximately 6,000 babies born with Down syndrome each year. Since initiating the campaign in 2011, there have been numerous breakthroughs in cognitive research that are increasing life opportunities for individuals with Down syndrome.
