LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointment of Edward Silver of Dexter to the MiSTEM Advisory Council.
The 11-member council was created to advise the Governor, Legislature, Department of Talent and Economic Development, and Department of Education with recommendations designed to improve and promote innovation and collaboration in STEM education and prepare students for careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
"Michigan’s current challenge is producing the most well-educated workforce possible to meet the talent demand of employers and I appreciate Edward’s commitment to helping it get there,” Snyder said.
Members are representative of business sectors that rely on a STEM-educated workforce, nonprofit organizations, and associations that promote STEM education. Members also represent K-12 and postsecondary education entities involved in STEM-related career education or other sectors as considered appropriate by the governor.

He holds a bachelor’s degree from Iona College in New York, a master’s degree in mathematics education and mathematics from Columbia University, and an Ed.D in mathematics education. He will fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Ralph Dershimer.
Sillver will serve a term expiring at the pleasure of the governor.
