Gov. Snyder makes appointments, reappointment to the Asian Pacific American Affairs Commission

LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointments of Anthony Chang of Grand Rapids, Jianli (Jenny) Wang of Superior Township, and Wei-Chein (Sharon) Dow of Rochester Hills, as well as the reappointment of Asim Alavi of Ann Arbor to the Asian Pacific American Affairs Commission.
Housed in the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs, the 21-member commission advances the full and equal participation of Asian Pacific Americans in Michigan.
“I thank these individuals for their commitment to this commission and to ensuring equal opportunities for the Asian Pacific American community in Michigan," Snyder said.
Appointments:
Chang is the founder and CEO of biotech company Rethink Imaging. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Chang Gung University, Taoyuan, Taiwan, and a Ph.D. in medical physics from the University of Texas Health Science Center. He will replace Jeffrey Vang.
Dow has over 20 years of experience in the automotive industry as a data architect in information and communication technology. She is the director of the Association of Chinese Americans, president of the Chinese American Society of Ann Arbor, and president of the Michigan Chinese Women Association. She holds a master’s degree from Western Michigan University. She will replace Tsu-Yin Wu.
Wang is the director of electric sales and marketing for DTE Energy and previously served as director of Business Planning and Development and director of strategy and planning. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Dalian University of Technology, Dalian, China, a master’s degree from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Changchun, China, a master’s degree from the University of Detroit, and a master of business administration from the University of Michigan. She will replace William DeChavez.
Reappointment:
Alavi is the director of technology for AT&T and previously served as the extranet operations lead for Ford Motor Co. as well as a customer network analyst for The Epitec Group. Alavi holds a bachelor's degree in electrical and computer engineering from the University of Iowa and a master's degree in computer engineering from Wayne State University.
Wang will serve the remainder of a four-year term to expire Nov. 30, 2019. Alavi, Chang, and Dow will serve four-year terms expiring Nov. 30, 2020.
