Gov. Rick Snyder makes appointment, reappointments to the Michigan Public School Employees' Retirement System Board

LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointment of Liz Eastway of Cadillac, as well as the reappointments of Mike Engle of Hastings and Scott Koenigsknecht of Fowler to the Michigan Public School Employees’ Retirement System Board.

The board is responsible for general oversight of retirement and survivor and disability benefits to employees in public school districts, intermediate school districts, and certain community colleges and universities.

“I thank these individuals for serving on this board and the work they will do to oversee the retirement systems,” Snyder said.

Appointment:

Eastway is a business coordinator with the Wexford-Missaukee Intermediate School District. She is a member of the Office of Retirement Services’ Payroll Advisory Team and is a certified Michigan School Business Officials Office Specialist. Eastway attended Ferris State University and Northwestern Michigan College. She will represent active or retired noncertified educational support positions and replace Christine Veld.

Reappointments:

Engle is a social studies teacher at Hastings High School where he teaches economics and advanced placement government. He is also the varsity girls basketball coach and a school improvement leader. Engle holds a bachelor’s degree in sociology from the United States Military Academy at West Point and a master’s of education in social science from Troy State University. He will continue to represent classroom teachers or other certified school personnel.

Koenigsknecht is the Ingham Intermediate School District superintendent. He previously served as superintendent for Montcalm Area Intermediate School District and Fowler Public Schools. Koenigsknecht holds a bachelor’s degree in secondary education, a master’s degree in educational administration, and a doctorate in education leadership from Central Michigan University. He will continue to represent school superintendents.

Members will serve four-year terms expiring March 30, 2021. Their appointments are subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
