LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointment of David Guinn to the 67th District Court in Genesee County.
“David Guinn’s extensive trial experience in Genesee County, and in this court in particular, will help him transition seamlessly from prosecuting cases to hearing them as district judge,” Snyder said. “His deep involvement in the community and his passion for improving the lives of residents of the City of Flint will translate well to the bench.”
Guinn, a native of Flint, has been an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney in Genesee County since 1997. He is currently assigned to the District Court Division, handling criminal matters. Throughout his career with the prosecutor’s office, he has been assigned to the Family Court Division, the Drug & Asset Forfeiture Division, and the Circuit Court Trial Division, as well as acting as the lead assistant prosecuting attorney on the South Side Task Force. He began his legal career as a law clerk at Becker, Lanctot, McCutchenon.
Guinn is an active member in the Flint community, having served on various boards and committees including the Old News Boys, Esquire Mentoring & Leadership Program and the Youth Leadership Institute, Inc. Currently he teaches police cadets at the Law Enforcement Regional Training Academy held at Mott Community College. Guinn is a member of the State Bar of Michigan, the Genesee County Bar Association, and the Mallory, Van Dyne, Scott Bar Association.
Guinn earned his bachelor’s degree in 1994 from Grand Valley State University and his law degree in 1997 from Ohio Northern University.
Guinn fills the vacancy created by the resignation of Judge Tracy Collier-Nix. He must seek election in November 2018 to be retained for the remaining two years of the term.
