Gov. Rick Snyder makes appointments, reappointments to the Board of Boiler Rules

LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointments of Jim Arini of St. Clair Shores, Garret Jackson of Zeeland, and Dale Palmer of Byron Center as well as the reappointments of Ryan Randazzo of Brownstown and David Robin of Howell to the Board of Boiler Rules.
The 11-member board formulates definitions and rules for the safe construction, installation, inspection, and repair of boilers in the state.
“This group of individuals have years of experience in this field and I am confident they will be positive additions to this board,” Snyder said.
Appointments:
Arini is the treasurer and business representative for the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 324. He holds a City of Detroit unlimited first class refrigeration operator’s license, a City of Detroit high pressure boiler operator’s license, and associate’s degree in climate control technology from Macomb Community College. He will represent organized labor in the state engaged in the design, erection, fabrication, installation, operation, repair, or inspection of boilers and replaces Frank Weichert.
Jackson is an engineering lead for Consumers Energy and previously served as a boiler specialist. He holds a bachelor’s degree with a double major in welding, engineering technology, and business from Utah State University, and a master of business administration from the University of Phoenix. He will represent owners and users of boilers operating at 1,000 p.s.i.g. or more, and replace Mark Babcock.
Palmer is the owner and president of Dean Boiler Inc. in Grand Rapids. He holds a Michigan Boiler Installation & Repair License and a Michigan Mechanical License, and is a longstanding member of the Michigan Boilers Inspection Association. Palmer previously served on the board. He will now represent fire tube boiler manufacturers and fill a vacancy.
Reappointments:
Randazzo is the plant manager of the Fossil Generation Peaker Organization at DTE Energy and previously served as a maintenance and production manager at the Trenton Channel Power Plant for DTE Energy. Randazzo holds a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Michigan-Dearborn, and is in the process of completing his master of business administration at Wayne State University. He will continue to represent owners and users of boilers.
Robin retired from Detroit Public Schools as the facility manager and supervisor. He earned several certifications including an operating engineer federal certificate of completion, Detroit first class stationary engineer, and ARI certification of completion for universal refrigeration transition and recovery. Robin holds a bachelor’s degree in industrial administration from Central Michigan University. He will continue to represent consulting engineers.
Arini and Jackson will serve the remainder of four-year terms expiring June 30, 2020. Palmer will serve the remainder of a four-year term expiring June 30, 2018. Randazzo and Robin will serve four-year terms expiring June 30, 2021. Appointments are subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
