LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointment of Daniel Vanderheide of Norton Shores to the Barrier Free Design Board.
The nine-member board assists the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs with reviewing and processing requests for exceptions to the barrier-free design specifications. It also makes recommendations for barrier free design rules.
“I thank Daniel for serving on this board and I am confident he will do the work necessary to make Michigan more accessible for those with disabilities,” Snyder said.
Vanderheide is the assistant city engineer for Kentwood and is the current chair of the Professional Engineers in Government Committee of the Michigan Society of Professional Engineers. He holds a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Calvin College and a professional engineer’s license. He will represent engineers and fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Aaron Besmer.
Vanderheide will serve the remainder of a three-year term expiring October 31, 2018. His appointment is subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
