LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointments of Luanne Ewald of Royal Oak, Laurie Linscott of East Lansing, Kristen McDonald of Bay City, and Scott Menzel of Whitmore Lake, as well as the reappointment of Jeffrey Mills of Allegan to the Early Childhood Investment Corporation.
Created in 2005, the 15-member board is the state's leading group for information about and investment in early childhood programs.
“I thank these individuals for their service and commitment. I am confident their combined experiences will be a positive asset to the board," Snyder said.
Appointments:
Ewald is CEO of the Children’s Hospital of Michigan and has been with the Detroit Medical Center for nearly 25 years. Ewald holds a bachelor’s degree in business from Marquette University and a master of hospital and health administration from Xavier University. She will replace Catherine Dobrowitsky.
Linscott is the director of the Michigan State University Child Development Laboratories. Her career has been devoted to the field of early childcare and education. Linscott holds an associate’s degree form Grand Rapids Junior College, a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Western Michigan University, and a master’s degree in child development from Michigan State University. She will fill a vacancy.
McDonald is the president and CEO of Greater Midland Community Centers and was previously the vice president of the Skillman Foundation. McDonald holds a bachelor’s degree in history form Michigan State University and a master’s degree in educational administration from the University of Michigan. She will fill a vacancy created by the resignation of Susan Broman.
Menzel is the superintendent of Washtenaw Intermediate School District. He has served on the Early Childhood Investment Corporation Corporate Board and was recently awarded the Eastern Michigan University Scholar of Excellence Award. Menzel holds a bachelor’s degree from Vanguard University of Southern California, a master’s degree from the American University, and a specialist’s degree and Ph.D. in educational leadership from Eastern Michigan University. He will replace Marianne Udow-Phillips.
Reappointment:
Mills is superintendent of Van Buren Intermediate School District and has been an educator for more than 28 years. He holds a bachelor’s degree in finance and a master’s degree in general educational administration from Central Michigan University.
McDonald will serve the remainder of a four-year term expiring July 22, 2018. All other members will serve four-year terms expiring July 22, 2021.
