Gov. Rick Snyder makes appointment, reappointments to the Michigan Board of Dentistry

LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointment of Mark Johnston of Lansing as well as the reappointments of Patricia Roels of Caledonia and Kathleen Inman of Croswell to the Michigan Board of Dentistry.
The 19-member board assists the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs in overseeing and regulating the practice of more than 7,800 dentists, 10,100 dental hygienists and 1,400 dental assistants.
"I thank these individuals for serving on this board and I am confident they will work diligently to hold dentists in Michigan to the highest standard,” Snyder said.
Appointment:
Johnston opened his practice in 1985. He is a member of the American Dental Association, the Michigan Dental Association, Central District Dental Society, the International College of Dentists, and is president of both the Great Lakes Dental Study Club and the Michigan Dental Golf Association. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Dartmouth College and a doctor of dental surgery from the University of Michigan. He will represent dentists and replace William Wright.
Reappointments:
Roels is the chief oral health officer for Cherry Street Health Services, a federally qualified health center, and previously served in various roles at Cherry Street Health Services and in private practice. She also serves as an adjunct faculty member for the University of Michigan School of Dentistry and is an alternate delegate to the MDA House of Delegates. Roels holds a bachelor’s degree in chemistry and a doctor of dental surgery, both from Indiana University. She will continue to represent dentists.
Inman is a dental hygienist with Port Sanilac Dental Care, is a dental hygiene examiner for the Commission on Dental Competency. She served as an adjunct faculty member at Baker College Port Huron and was a member of the Dental Hygiene and Dental Assisting Advisory Boards at the college. Inman currently sits on the Dental Hygiene Advisory Board for Baker College at the Auburn Hills campus. She holds an associate’s degree in dental hygiene from Kellogg Community College and a bachelor's degree in health science education from the State University of New York at Buffalo. She will continue to represent dental hygienists.
Members will serve four-year terms expiring June 30, 2021. Their appointments are subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
