Gov. Rick Snyder makes reappointments to the State Board of Examiners in Mortuary Science

LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the reappointments of Kathleen Barone of Coldwater, Thomas Chrzanowski of Taylor and Mark Canale of Marquette to the State Board of Examiners in Mortuary Science.

Housed within the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs, the nine-member board provides oversight for the state's mortuary science licensees.

“I thank these individuals for their continued commitment to overseeing mortuary science licensees in Michigan,” Snyder said.

Barone is owner and president of Dutcher Funeral Home and owner of Kolcz Funeral Home, in Bronson. She was formerly the director of Lynch & Son’s. Barone holds a bachelor of business administration in fashion/business from Parsons School of Design and a bachelor’s degree in mortuary science from Wayne State University. She will continue to represent professionals.

Canale is owner and president of Canale-Tonella Funeral Home Inc., a managing partner of Canale Properties LLC, and a managing partner of Block 500 Partnership LLC. He is the president of the board of trustees of the Marquette County Community Foundation and board chair of the U.P. Catholic Credit Union. Canale holds a bachelor’s degree in mortuary science from the University of Minnesota. He will continue to represent professionals.

Chrzanowski is owner of Red Austin’s Funeral Coach Services. He is a member of the Michigan Funeral Service Sales Association. He attended Wayne Community College - University of Michigan Dearborn campus. He will continue to represent the general public.

Members will serve four-year terms expiring June 30, 2021. Their appointments are subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
