LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointment of Catherine Hendrian of Plymouth, as well as the reappointments of Margaret Derrer of Grand Rapids, Krista Haroutunian of Detroit and Chris Etienne of Petoskey to the Michigan Women’s Commission.
The 15-member board addresses complex issues which impact Michigan women, including providing support for female veterans, fighting human trafficking and assisting women business owners.
“I thank this group of individuals for the work they do to improve the lives of women statewide,” Snyder said.
Appointments:
Hendrian is senior vice president of human resources for Consumers Energy. She holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Michigan and a master’s degree in human resources and organizational development from Eastern Michigan University. She will replace Sara Schroeder.
Reappointments:
Derrer is the executive director of the Hope Network Foundation. She previously served as the associate vice president of marketing and communication for Aquinas College and as director of marketing and public relations for Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital. She is a board member and marketing committee volunteer for the Ronald McDonald House of Western Michigan, and a 2014 graduate of Leadership Grand Rapids. Derrer holds a bachelor’s degree in communication from Cedarville University.
Haroutunian is a shareholder and attorney at Haroutunian Licata Haroutunian PC. She also serves as a special assistant attorney general for the Department of Health and Human Services for the Adult Protective Services Division, and as the public administrator from Wayne County. Haroutunian holds a bachelor’s degree in history from the University of Michigan and a degree from the Detroit College of Law at Michigan State University.
Etienne is an associate real estate broker with Harbor Sotheby's International Realty and Director of Leasing for Bay Harbor Properties. Previously, she worked as assistant sales director and sales director for Bay Harbor Properties, and as vice president of National City Bank. Etienne serves on the Bay Harbor Foundation board and is a member of the Northwest Michigan Industrial Association and Petoskey Chamber of Commerce. She holds a bachelor's degree in business management from the University of Maryland and a master's degree in business administration from Lake Superior State University.
Members will serve three-year terms expiring July 15, 2020. Their appointments are subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
