Gov. Rick Snyder makes reappointment to the Michigan Municipal Services Authority Executive Committee

Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2017

LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the reappointment of Doug Smith to the Michigan Municipal Services Authority Executive Committee.

The MMSA Executive Committee encourages best practices, teamwork and interlocal cooperation between municipalities and school districts. The 12-member authority oversees the development of shared services in which any interested community or school district can choose to participate. The interlocal agreement between the cities of Grand Rapids and Livonia allows communities to collaborate on the delivery of services, including information technology, finance and accounting, payroll processing, and health care services.

“I thank Doug for his continued commitment to bettering interlocal cooperation,” Snyder said.

Smith is Executive Director of Workforce Development and Lifelong Learning at Oakland Community College. He previously served as senior advisor and senior vice president at the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, deputy county executive for Oakland County, and real estate and development director for the city of Troy. Smith holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from Lawrence University and a master’s degree in public administration from the University of Michigan.

He will serve a four-year term expiring Sept. 17, 2021.
