LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointment of Paul Lauria of Mount Pleasant to the Michigan Prescription Drug and Opioid Abuse Commission.
The 17-member commission is housed with the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs and will review the Michigan Prescription Drug and Opioid Abuse Task Force’s Report of Findings and Recommendations for Action and develop and propose policies and an action plan to implement the report’s recommendations.
“I thank Paul for serving on this important commission and I am confident this group’s work will be an integral part in combating the opioid epidemic,” Snyder said.
Lauria is the director of public safety and chief of police for the City of Mt. Pleasant. He holds a bachelor’s degree in law enforcement and a master’s in public administration from Northern Michigan University, and graduated from the Federal Bureau of Investigations National Academy and Northwestern University Staff and Command. He will represent law enforcement officers and fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Mary Sclabassi.
Lauria will serve the remainder of a two-year term expiring on Sept. 1, 2018. His appointment is subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
