LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the reappointment of William Howard Morris of Detroit to the State Tax Commission.
Housed within the Michigan Department of Treasury, the three-member board has general supervision of the administration of Michigan's property tax laws. It also provides guidance to local assessors on proper assessment administration and oversees the certification and education of assessors statewide. No more than two members can be from the same political party.
“I believe William’s financial background makes him well suited for this commission,” Snyder said.
Morris has 30 years of professional accounting and financial experience and is the president and CIO of the Prairie & Tireman Group in Detroit. He is a certified public accountant, a chartered financial analyst, a personal financial specialist, and a chartered global management accountant. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Northwood University and a master’s degree from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He will continue to represent Independents and individuals with experience with taxation and government.
Morris will serve a four-year term expiring Dec. 27, 2021. His appointment is subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
