Gov. Rick Snyder makes appointments to the Commission on Middle-Eastern American Affairs

LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointment of Fadwa Hammoud of Dearborn and Nabeel Obeid of Ann Arbor to the Commission on Middle-Eastern American Affairs.
Established by Executive Order 2015-6, the 15-member commission was created to act in an advisory capacity to the Governor, and is housed within the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs.
“Fadwa and Nabeel have diverse backgrounds and knowledge that make them an excellent choice to serve on this commission,” Snyder said.
Hammoud is the assistant prosecuting attorney in the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office. She was appointed to the Dearborn Board of Education in 2015 and was elected to a full six-year term in 2016. Hammoud holds a bachelor’s degree in political science and communications from the University of Michigan and a juris doctor degree from Wayne State University Law School. She will fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Mariam Bazzi.
Obeid is a clinical assistant professor of surgery for Michigan Medicine. He previously served as a minimally invasive and bariatric surgery fellow for Stony Brook Medicine and a general surgery resident at New York University School of Medicine. He holds a bachelor’s degree in biopsychology and cognitive sciences and a doctor of medicine from the University of Michigan medical school. He will fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Bishr Al-Ujayli.
Hammoud will serve the remainder of a four-year term expiring April 19, 2018, and Obeid will serve the remainder of a four-year term expiring April 19, 2019.
