Gov. Rick Snyder makes appointments to the Public Health Advisory Council

LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointments of Jennifer Johnson of Flint and Sandra McGovern of Ishpeming to the Public Health Advisory Council.
The council, which was recommended by the Michigan Public Health Advisory Commission, will develop an action plan for implementing the commission’s recommendations. It also is tasked with providing advice about emerging issues in public health, monitoring the effectiveness of Michigan’s public health response system, and reviewing multiagency efforts to support collaboration and a unified approach on public health responses.
"I thank Jennifer and Sandra for their dedication to the public health and safety of all Michiganders,” Snyder said.
Johnson is a C. S. Mott Endowed Professor of Public Health. She also is a professor in the College of Human Medicine at Michigan State University. She holds a bachelor’s degree and a Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Brigham Young University and a master’s degree from Brown University. She will represent a nationally accredited medical school.
McGovern is the chief nursing officer and previously served at the clinical director for inpatient behavioral health services for UP Health Systems Marquette. She holds a master’s degree from Saint Francis College of Nursing and a doctorate of nursing practice from Rush University. She will represent registered nurses.
Both appointees will serve three-year terms expiring November 1, 2020.
