LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointment of Nancy Duncan of Lansing as well as the reappointments of Olusola (Matthew) Adeyanju of Big Rapids, Harold Mast of Kentwood, Margot Roedel of Caro, and Kristie Zamora of Flint to the Michigan Commission on Services to the Aging.
The commission is a 15-member body appointed by the governor to offer oversight on the administration of state programs and priorities affecting aging Michiganders. A majority of the members must be at least 60 years of age and no more than eight may be from the same political party.
“I thank this group for the work they do to ensure aging adults in Michigan have the opportunity to live independent lives,” Snyder said.
Appointment:
Duncan recently retired as the Deputy State Budget Director for the State of Michigan, a position she held since 1998. She began her career with the State of Michigan as a caseworker in the Family Independence Agency, and served as the chief financial officer and budget officer for the Family Independence Agency before joining the State Budget Office. Duncan holds a degree from Albion College and attended Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government Program for Senior Executives in Local Government. She will represent Independents and replace Jerry Irby.
Reappointments:
Adeyanju is the dean of Ferris State University’s College of Health Professions. He previously served as professor and chair for the Department of Social and Public Health in the College of Health Sciences and Professions, and as a campus program coordinator for the Consortium of Eastern Ohio Master of Public Health Program at Ohio University. Adeyanju holds a Ph.D. from the University of Illinois. He will continue to represent Independents.
Mast is the president and owner of Harold Mast Consulting LLC., and is a Kent County Commissioner. He has extensive experience in health care and human service organizations, previously serving as the executive director of Genesis Non-Profit Housing Corp., as well as holding numerous positions within Pine Rest Christian Mental Health Services. Mast served in the Navy and the Navy Reserves. He holds a bachelor’s degree in economics and business administration from Calvin College and a master’s degree in health care administration and organization from the University of Iowa. He will continue to represent Republicans.
Roedel is the CEO and nursing home administrator for the Tuscola County Medical Care Facility. She is a registered nurse and president of the Rotary Club of Caro. Roedel holds an associate’s degree in nursing from Delta College School of Nursing. She will continue to represent Democrats.
Zamora is the coordinator of arts, culture, and film for Oakland County. She is the founding editor of Prosper, an electronic newsletter for economic development and community affairs. She previously served as the coordinator of exhibitions for the Flint Institute of Arts. Zamora holds a bachelor’s degree in political science and art history from Kalamazoo College. She will continue to represent Independents.
Members will serve three-year terms expiring July 28, 2020. Their appointments are subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
